Walking by a Kiehl's shop in the mall, I see a skeleton mascot (an ironic spokesman for skincare). When did skeletons become popularized? I imagine if a company had a skeleton outside a storefront in the 1950s, people would be pissed. Then there’s the middle school skeleton on wheel that you keep in the closet for anatomy demos. Shakespeare and Montaigne are both associated with the skull on their desk, but they were artists. I’d imagine the general townsfolk wouldn’t feel so comfortable with seeing such a literal symbol of death as they truck on with their burdens. Maybe we’re so hyper-saturated and desensitized that skeletons are just NBD now. This is a question for Alicia (the #1 skeleton fanatic I know who actually owns a full skeleton, keeps it in her closet, and does photo shoots with it).
